Nissanka Dharmathilake - BMR 2007

Well said Buddhi. Sinhalese community live in Sydney irrespective of
their affiliation with SCF accepted that the BMR is the premier cultural
event they would like to attend every year. There is no need to discuss
alternative arrangements against staging BMR every year. (It will be
like trying to convince Australian cricket fans not to have a Boxing Day
test every year)

Now our challenge is to make this event sustainable and financially
viable within limited resources we have. Presence of a strong marketing
team which could attract sponsors outside Sri Lankan community is a
must.

Yes, there is a need to introduce strict project planning and management
into the staging of BMR. Although we haven't used the same terminology
over the years, we must have developed certain ways of doing things,
guidelines and policies for operational activities. It's simply a matter
of strengthening existing policies and procedures rather than trying to
make U turns every year.

Please do not forget that the most significant player (probably
stakeholder) who should be given adequate consideration is our audience,
families who spend at least $100 on the day. We should be sensible
enough to visualize everything (content of the show, seat allocation,
facilities available etc.) from their eye. Steps should be taken to gain
their respect through our actions.

Show manager's artistic eye is a very subjective issue. Rather than
entrusting this responsibility to a single person a panel of proven BMR
production team members should be entrusted to handle all production
activities.

Keep up your good work Buddhi.

Regards,
Nissanka
